Celeste Murphy

Celeste Murphy has served in the Atlanta Police Department for over two decades, where she has held the roles of Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major and Deputy Chief. In 2016, when she was appointed to the rank of Major, Murphy was selected to lead the Office of Professional Standards. Since January 2021, she served "as the deputy chief of the Community Services Division, which encompasses units that are directly responsible for Atlanta's community-oriented policing," according to a City of Chattanooga press release. In February 2022, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly announced Tuesday that he has appointed Celeste Murphy to lead the Chattanooga Police Department. Murphy is the first woman, and also the first Black woman to head the department.
