Dr. Heather Wilson is the 24th Secretary of the Air Force and is responsible for all affairs of the Department of the Air Force. These include overseeing the training and providing for the welfare of the 660,000 Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve forces as well as their families. It also includes overseeing the annual budget of more than 132 billion dollars.
Dr. Wilson graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and served as an Air Force officer from 1982 5o 1989. She earned both her master's and doctoral degrees in International Relations as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.
Following her military service, Dr. Wilson served on the National Security Council staff as a director for defense policy and arms control. Following her tenure there, Dr. Wilson worked in the private sector, and in 1991 founded the company Keystone International, which did business development and program work for the defense and scientific industries.
In 1998 Dr. Wilson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives where she served until 2009. During her time in Congress, she served on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence among others.
