On August 1, 2013 the U.S. Senate confirmed Liliana Ayalde's nomination to be the U.S. Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Ambassador Ayalde comes to Brazil with 30 years of experience in the diplomatic service. She most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for the Western Hemisphere with the responsibility for overseeing U.S. bilateral relations with Central America, the Caribbean, and Cuba. Immediately prior to the DAS assignment she was the Senior Assistant Administrator for the Latin American and Caribbean Bureau for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) coordinating important development assistance programs in Haiti, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Between 2008 and 2011 she served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay.
