Maria Silva Foster

Maria das Gracas Silva Foster is the current CEO of Petrobas-Petroleo Brasil. She is the first woman to head a major oil and gas company. She has served in this role since her election the Board of Directors in 2012 and appointment by Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff as President of Petrobas. Prior to this, Foster served as the President of Petrobas Distribuidora SA, Director of Investor Relations and Executive Manager of Petrochemicals and Fertilizers.

In 2003, Foster was appointed as the Secretary of Oil, Natural Gas, and Renewable Fuels in the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Foster joined Petrobas in 1978 as an intern and hired in 1981. She has also served as an aide and advisor to President Rouseff after developing a relationship in 1998 over similar political leanings. Foster earned a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from Fluminense Federal University in 1978 and eared a Masters in Nuclear Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1979. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Getulio Vargas
