As the nation's center of excellence for counterterrorism, eliminate the terrorist threat through integrated Counterterrorism Intelligence and Strategic Operational Planning.

In response to the 9/11 Commission's Recommendations, the Congress passed and the President signed the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (See Background and Authorities for More Information). Section 1016 of the law called for the creation of an Information Sharing Environment and defined it as "an approach that facilitates the sharing of terrorism information." The law required the President to designate a Program Manager for the ISE and establish an Information Sharing Council to advise the President and the Program Manager.

The Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive (ONCIX) is part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and is staffed by senior counterintelligence (CI) and other specialists from across the national intelligence and security communities.

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) invests in high-risk/high-payoff research that has the potential to provide our nation with an overwhelming intelligence advantage over future adversaries.

American Police Veterans is an organization dedicated to the issues and needs of America's former law enforcement officers from departments and agencies across the country. Established on March 4, 2005, the goals are to provide an online community for former law enforcement officers that have retired or been disabled. The primary purpose is to provide emotional and practical support for retired, disabled, and other American Police Veterans who have served in a municipal, county, state, US Federal or Military law enforcement organization. Our second purpose is to promote and protect a positive image of police veterans to the general public and within the profession itself.

The Wharton/ASIS Program for Security Executives offers core business knowledge from one of the leading business schools. This 2-week intensive program is taught by many of the same faculty who have made Wharton’s MBA program one of the top-ranked in the world.

The IUP Department of Criminology offers students seeking careers in criminology a broad liberal arts education that encourages them to think critically about crime and justice issues and also prepares them for careers in the criminal justice system. The degree offered is the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminology and the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminology Pre-Law. Additionally, students may minor in Criminology. Through the Graduate School the department also offers graduate work at both the master’s and doctoral level.

The program leading to the Master of Science in Criminal Justice is designed to improve the administration and planning components of the criminal justice system. The student who has earned a master's degree from the School of Criminal Justice will appreciate the diversity of issues confronting the criminal justice system and its sub-components and will be prepared to address these issues through the application of theoretical concepts in administrative and planning applications to public policy issues in crime control and the disposition of offenders.

The Police Corps is designed to address violent crime by helping state and local law enforcement agencies increase the number of officers with advanced education and training assigned to community patrol. The program, which operates within states that have submitted an approved state plan, motivates highly qualified young people to serve as police officers and sheriffs' deputies in the municipalities, counties and states that need them most. It does this by offering Federal scholarships on a competitive basis to college students who agree to serve where needed on community patrol for at least four years.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice is a 120 credit-hour program. It is an interdisciplinary major, predicated on a common core of the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences. The goal of the program is to develop in students an increased analytical awareness of the role of law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional institutions in the criminal justice system.

The Division of Public Safety Leadership cultivates and sustains viable communities by establishing and disseminating educational programs that foster the ethical, social, and intellectual development of current and future leaders in public safety.
