Major General Rosetta Y. Burke

Major General Rosetta Y. Burke was the first female general in New York's Army National Guard and the first female in the nation to be promoted to Major General.

She retired from service in 1997 after serving in the Army reserve and New York Army National Guard for a combined total of 35 years. Starting in 1997, she acted as the state director of the Selective Service System for New York. As a former nurse, Burke attended Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, Adelphi University, and the C.W. Post Center, Long Island University.
