Brig. Gen. Mary F. O'Brien is the Vice Commander of the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency, Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, Texas, with duty location at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. The Air Force ISR Agency provides multisource ISR products, applications, capabilities and resources, as well as Cyber ISR forces and expertise. The Air Force ISR Agency includes the 70th and 480th ISR wings; National Air and Space Intelligence Center; Air Force Technical Applications Center; 361st Special Operations Forces ISR Group; and all Air Force cryptologic operations. More than 19,000 Air Force ISR Agency Airmen worldwide provide flexible collection, analysis, weapons monitoring, and operational intelligence to joint warfighters and national agencies.
General O'Brien received her commission upon graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1989. She has served in a variety of intelligence staff and command assignments. Her staff assignments include numbered air force, major command, Headquarters U.S. Air Force and Joint Staff positions.
She commanded the 22nd Intelligence Squadron, Fort Meade, Maryland; 691st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, Royal Air Force Menwith Hill, England; and 70th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, Fort Meade, Maryland. Her tours outside of the intelligence field include serving as a legislative fellow on Capitol Hill and in the Secretary of the Air Force Office of Legislative Liaison Inquiries Division.
