Vice Admiral Michelle Howard

Vice Admiral Michelle Howard is Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Force and is one of the three highest-ranking women in the U.S. Navy presently. She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1982.

She has served on the USS Hunley and USS Lexington, where she received the Winifred Collins award, which is given to one female officer annually for outstanding leadership.

She supported Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Joint Endeavor. In 199, she took command of USS Rushmore, the first African American woman to command a ship in the U.S. Navy.

She has also command Amphibious Squadron Seven, Expeditionary Strike Group Two, and Task Force 151. She has also served in the Joint Staff and OPNAV.
